Tiel Seivl-Keevers
Tiel Seivl-Keevers is a Brisbane-based artist with a background in graphic design and illustration. In 1993 she completed a Bachelor of Arts/Visual Arts with a major in printmaking. Now working mainly in acrylics, ink and oil pastels, Tiel has developed her own distinctive visual language. Her paintings are richly layered with intricate design elements and harmonious blocks of colour exploring concepts of the cycles found in nature.
In recent months, Tiel has been exploring concepts of memory and impermanence in relation to specific topographical journeys. Although she continues to explore her natural surroundings within her hometown of Brisbane, she also regularly visits the beaches and hinterland of Northern NSW, particularly in the Tweed and Byron Shires. Tiel has often expressed her mark making and composition based on the aerial perspective to reflect her recordings whilst on walks. Recently she has been drawn to a more traditional, Western perspective whilst observing the landscapes. Often overwhelmed by the immensity of topographical elements in view, she prefers to capture smaller, more detailed areas to intensify the emotive aspects that the environment can offer.
Tiel manipulates surfaces by adding and removing marks to reflect seasonal and cyclical changes. She focusses on the landscapes' intricacies, that can only be seen by immersing herself into an area and then trying to capture the essence and mood of being within a place whilst appreciating the constant impermanence of life.
