Chris Summer
Chris Summer is a contemporary Australian artist, creating realistic art with passion and patience.
"My deep love for the process of making fine art allows me to feel connected to something greater than myself and to reflect that into the world".
Born in England in 1979, as a child Chris was raised internationally, until his family resettled in London when he was a teenager. Chris loves to travel and at the age of 30 he traded city life, for the beaches and coastline of the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia, where the lifestyle suits the time and focus he needs, to create art that takes up to 200 hours.
As a self-taught artist over a 12 year career, Chris has developed a distinct visionin his still life painting. Inspired by the complexity of nature, he studies intricate
subjects, to explore fine detail and the sensitivity of light. The passion given to this precise process results in art that is inspiring and emotive.
"I love artist's that leave something to the imagination, with gestural lines and palette knife strokes, but for me, creating form and texture in that amount of detail is the only way to represent a subject in its true and honest form. What could be more beautiful than that?".
Chris’ artwork has been nominated twice as a finalist in The South Australia Museum’s prestigious Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, as well as the
Muswellbrook Art Prize and Wildlife Artist Of The Year in the UK.
