about
The unique Echidna is one of the oldest mammals in the world, the other being the Platypus. Both are Monotremes or egg laying mammals, a link between reptiles and mammals. Both are only native to Tasmania and Australia.
The original design of this unique creature was modelled in clay and then molded in plaster. The piece is slip-cast and then hand finished.
All animals I produce are very durable as they are made from a porcelain/stoneware body fired to 1280oC.
“Have you ever seen an Echidna swimming?
It’s truly hilarious and I’m not kidding!
A snout and eyes is all you see, skimming along at quite a speed.
What the heck is it, you ponder be-mused?
Until out of the water climbs an unlikely creature,
you immediately recognise as a Spiny Ant-Eater!”
