Notes from the artist
Impressionistic in tone and handling, the occasion marks the end of every vintage harvest at Wendouree Winery. I pick there and could not resist taking a series of photographs two years ago. The trees are oaks, a hundred years old. The picnic is a pooled lunch, the wines are all ten years old, Wendouree of course. Always a great day, dappled light unifies the whole picture, allowing accents of light and shade across its surface. The figures are casual and relaxed, some are barely suggestions. The standing figure provides focus while the table lines reinforce that effect with perspective.
