Alicia Butt is a South Australian artist specialising in ceramics. Butt explores the importance of tactility to the medium of ceramics by creating handcrafted functional pieces with textured surfaces that are pleasing to look at and pleasant to handle. Her work shows a thoughtful approach to the making process and a sense of curiosity to the possibilities of the materials. She hopes to capture a sense of elegance in her designs and takes pride in the precision she shows in the refinement of each piece. She is driven by a desire to master her craft and to share her practice with others through the unique pieces that she creates. Each piece is made with patience and care to create something one of a kind for people to enjoy using in their everyday lives.
Alicia graduated from Flinders University and Adelaide College of the Arts in 2020 with a Bachelors Degree in Creative Arts (Visual Arts). She is currently working alongside other creatives at The Mill to establish her own small business Ali Potter Ceramics which is a one-woman operation.
Her work has been exhibited in several group shows including in 2021, when her body of work ‘Let’s Touch Base’ was selected to exhibit in Hatched: National Graduate Exhibition at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA). Her most recent exhibition in 2024 was as a member of The Mill for their fundraiser exhibition LIMITLESS. She has been awarded several excellent opportunities to further her creative journey including a mentorship with Yuro Cuchor and a 12-month studio residency at 215 Magill Studios in 2021. More recently she has taken part in several art and design markets, including the Bowerbird Design Market.
