about
The unique Australian animal the Platypus is a most unusual and very shy animal. Rarely seen, they are active mainly as the light waxes and wanes. The slightest noise and they disappear into their watery sanctuary.
Scientists have recently discovered that the Platypus genome is closely related to birds and reptiles. An evolutionary link between mammals and reptiles, they lay eggs but also feed their young on milk and carry them in a pouch. They are a marsupial and a mammal.
The original design of this unique creature was modelled in clay and then molded in plaster. The piece is slip-cast and then hand finished.
All animals I produce are very durable as they are made from a porcelain/stoneware body fired to 1280oC.
