For many South Australians, Silvio’s public sculptures are instantly recognisable—his life-sized granite Sea Lion at the Adelaide Zoo, the Whale Tail fountain in Victor Harbor, and the water features at Burnside Village are just a few iconic examples. Yet this new exhibition reveals the breadth and depth of his sculptural practice, from monumental commissions to finely detailed, hand-carved miniatures.
Silvio’s deep connection to Australian native wildlife is ever-present. His subjects—marsupials, birds, reptiles, insects, and marine life—are depicted with reverence and precision. Working in wood, bronze, marble, and granite, Silvio balances anatomical accuracy with an emotional expressiveness that breathes life into each piece.
Particularly beloved are his miniature works in the traditional Japanese ‘Netsuke’ style—portable sculptures carved from horn or wood that carry a unique tactile charm. These intricate pieces reflect his lifelong fascination with animals and his exceptional skill as a carver.
This exhibition is a celebration of artistry, environmental awareness, and a career defined by integrity and passion.
