Art Images Gallery is proud to present The Intermittence of Ominous Skies, the second solo exhibition by acclaimed Australian landscape artist Peter Watts.
A three-time finalist in the Glover Art Prize (2021, 2022, 2024), and winner of the 2022 People’s Choice Award, Peter Watts continues to redefine landscape painting through his deeply atmospheric and subtly abstract works. His paintings reflect the ever-changing conditions of Southern Australia’s skies and highland terrain—where light and shadow play across vast, moody expanses.

This latest body of work explores fleeting natural phenomena, capturing transient moments of tension and tranquillity in the landscape. With his discerning eye for the ephemeral and his layered approach to colour and form, Watts invites viewers to consider how we observe, remember, and feel the natural world.
In addition to his fine art practice, Peter is an internationally awarded designer and creative director with a visual career spanning over 30 years. His design works have been shown in London, New York, and major Australian institutions.
Don’t miss this chance to view a masterful painter at the height of his career, where the boundaries between realism and abstraction dissolve into powerful visual poetry.
