Contemporary pop artist Ben Tankard returns to Art Images Gallery with a compelling solo exhibition from 13 February to 15 March 2026. Based in the scenic Blue Mountains, NSW, Tankard is celebrated for his vibrant, multi-layered paintings that reimagine culturally embedded imagery.

A graduate of the University of Western Sydney (2000), Tankard has exhibited widely across Australia and earned recognition as a finalist in the 2012 Sulman Prize and a semi-finalist in the 2013 Doug Moran Portrait Prize. His work draws viewers into the intersection of familiarity and disruption, using everyday symbols to challenge perceptions of popular culture.

Tankard’s Unpopular Penguin series, launched in 2015, demonstrates his fascination with iconic Penguin book covers. Through warped, painterly reinterpretations, he transforms instantly recognisable imagery into something new and thought-provoking. Since 2016, he has expanded this approach to board games, tarot cards, and iconic album covers, continually exploring how cultural symbols shape memory and collective experience.

Visitors to this exhibition can expect to see a dynamic body of work that balances expressive brushwork, playful appropriation, and visual nostalgia. Tankard’s paintings invite audiences to re-examine the everyday objects and imagery that surround us, offering a fresh perspective on pop culture.

Don’t miss Ben Tankard’s solo exhibition at Art Images Gallery – a must-see for lovers of contemporary art in Adelaide this February and March 2026.
