Moving Through the Seasons

Living in the foothills of Adelaide, I am fortunate to be surrounded by trees populating the rolling hills. My garden is also home to a Moreton Bay fig which can also found in the public parks in my immediate neighbourhood. Their interesting arching branches and large leaves have inspired this painting which considers the environment as a mix of elements: the trees in various stages of growth and decay, the seasons evident in the colours, and the ever-present geology of the hillside, all intermingling through the layered and translucent colour planes.
Seasonal changes are a constant in my life, affecting me in my energy levels, my mental and emotional outlook, and obviously at a physical, sensory level (as a very fair skinned person, I need to be careful about sun protection!). Nature's cycles is a great reminder to go with the flow and tune into how we are part of the environment as much as other living things.
