This painting was inspired by a fleeting moment of beauty observed during my Artist Residency at the Tweed Regional Gallery. Standing on the balcony with my paints, I watched as the last light touched the peak of Mount Warning, Wollumbin. Casting shifting shadows across the landscape, the mountain, veiled in atmospheric haze and bathed in a quiet, golden glow, felt both monumental and intimate. Working en plein air allowed me to respond directly to the changing light and mood, capturing the mountain’s powerful presence as day turned to dusk. This painting is an emotional response to that view, its stillness, its mystery, and its beauty. It holds the memory of that light and a moment of quiet reflection high above the valley. Through layered paint, from thin to thick I hoped to evoke the gentle majesty and beauty of Wollumbin as seen from that special vantage point.
