Kurrangk /Coorong, was a recent winner of the Hawksbury Art Prize and also the Packing Prize winner. It was painted after a recent residency at the Coorong.
Lying at the end of the Murray River, its waters pool into a vast network of saltwater lagoons before it meets the sea.
The traditional home of the Njarrindgeri, it was once one of the most densely populated regions of Australia.
Today its complex ecosystem is protected by the Ramsar agreement, and is recognised as a significant breeding ground for migratory and shore birds.
Its quiet waters surrounded by dunes draw me back frequently, just like the birds.
