Living and working on Peramangk Land in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, Violet is a prolific maker with over 25 years experience as a multi-disciplinary artist.
On completing her degree in illustration she became better known for her work as a public art creator, visual artist and social commentator, and is now gaining interest for her vibrant and unique ceramic vessels.
Relatively new to the medium of clay, Violet has a playful approach, each piece infused with humour. Her inanimate objects have a tendency to display a sense of attitude. The hand built forms embrace a refreshing wonkiness, applying legs, handles and necks to invoke anthropomorphic characteristsics that can be interpreted in a multitude of amusing ways.
Battling personal imperfections and the imperfections that arise when hand crafting work - particularly in the medium of ceramic, where so many things can go wrong - Violet embraces the wobbly bits and the flaws that arise in her making as a way of suggesting that our foibles are actually what make things more interesting.
With her bold use of colour, type and texture, Violets whimsical sculptural forms, above all else, serve to offer up joy.
