Simone Linder-Patton is an emerging South Australian ceramic artist working in a range of clay mediums and techniques. Simone uses alternative wood fired firing techniques to explore the confluence of the elements on her hand-built pieces.
Pit firing has personal and historical resonances which introduces uncertainty, creating unique visual and tactile surface nuances. Simone’s current work has evolved from searching for place and the placement of objects within a defined landscape. Using a combination of the Chinese porcelain carving technique in her sgraffito decorated pieces, exploring the intriguing tactile qualities of Australian Flora.
Graduating with a visual arts honors’ degree from Flinders University and TAFESA in 2017, and a ceramics major in her bachelor’s degree in visual arts, in 2016. In 2016 Simone had the opportunity to travel to the pottery workshop Jingdezhen, China, for a six-week artists residency funded by the Helpmann Academy. There she attended many workshops learning new skills and techniques including carving on Porcelain. Simone has since taught workshops in the Chinese porcelain carving technique in Australia and New Zealand.
Simone’s award-winning work has been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and finalist in national and local art prizes. Simone completed a wood firing mentorship with Ben Richardson of Ridgeline Pottery Tasmania in 2022 and a mentorship with Stephanie James Manttan wheel throwing in Porcelain in 2018.
Previously a studio tenant at JamFactory, Seppeltsfield, Ceramics Studio, Simone is now based at Studio Built 1921 near Birdwood, Adelaide Hills. Simone creates unique functional and sculptural ceramic forms.
