Greta lives and works in the beautiful Adelaide foothills from her home studio, which with its undulating hills and closeness of bushland, subtly inform her colourful and bold abstract paintings.
Exploring ideas of play, chance and risk-taking, Greta takes an experimental and intuitive approach to her studio practice; rarely are paintings pre-planned. Rather, careful attention is paid to the process of painting itself with each additional mark, colour or shape informing the next move, until a conversation begins to form within the work. With a strong affinity for colour, Greta infuses each canvas with numerous layers of opaque and translucent paint, building up a story through the composition with ‘happy accidents’, moments of clarity and cohesion all purposefully visible.
In this respect, Greta conceptualises her work as a visual metaphor and performative experience of what it means to be human: an individual and group narrative of vulnerability, love and connection, the duality of perfection/imperfection, and our relationship with the natural environment. In many ways, while the natural landscape may be identified in her imagery, Greta’s work is also representative of the internal emotional and psychological ‘landscape’ we all experience.
Greta holds a Bachelor Visual Arts (first class Honours, UniSA), has participated in numerous group and solo shows over the past two decades and has been a finalist in several art prizes including the Lethbridge 20000, the Kennedy Art Prize, and Omnia Art Prize. Her works are held in numerous private collections throughout Australia and internationally.
