After spending 2 months in the caravan with my family on the New South Wales north coast in late 2024, I returned to the studio with the imprint of the vibrant hinterlands well and truly embossed in my mind. The deeply textured, layered and luscious greenery of the hinterlands inspired this latest collection.
My process combines layers of mixed mediums to create depth, movement and energy which references the rich growth of the hinterlands. Green is for sure the theme in these pieces with varying hues of it purposely used in each work as a symbol of the abundancy of life and energy in nature.
At the heart of the collection are my usual subjects such as livestock, working dogs and native Australian animals as well as native flora still life pieces. However, the energy from my recent trip and the connection between fauna and flora is what inspired this latest body of work. - Aidan Weichard 2025
