Anthea Stead is an artist who lives and works from her home in the small coastal town of Wombarra, nestled under the Illawarra Escarpment.
After graduating with a BA in Visual Communication from Sydney College of the Arts, Anthea worked for 15 years as a graphic designer and a published illustrator, both in Australia and the UK before turning to painting fulltime in 2014.
Her paintings often reflect her local environment from the backdrop of the Escarpment's rainforest down to the sea.
Capturing this dramatic coastline and the line of the escarpment is a recurring theme in her work.
Besides painting she also produces intricate works on paper using acrylics, inks and collage and was recently a finalist in Wollongong Gallery's Flow Contemporary Art Prize.
